Skilled Utilities Operator Traineeship

The Skilled Utilities Operator Traineeship is a 13-month training programme which will provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to deliver infrastructure for utilities companies.

Upon successful completion of the Traineeship, you will achive a CABWI Level2 Diploma in Network Construction Operations – Water (Main Layer) as well as many essential industry-recognised training qualifications.

The simulated site training at Mount Lucas, as well as a recognised qualification, will prepare you for a career in a progressive industry with many pathways for promotion and self-employment.

In order to participate on this programme, you must be at least 18 years old, be reliable, have a strong work ethic and be willing to work as part of a team in an outdoor environment.

Phase 1 Weeks  1-12Simulated site training at Mount Lucas

  • Induction, Safepass, Manual Handling, First Aid
  • Abrasive Wheels Training, Health and Safety Awareness
  • Location of Underground Services
  • Concreting & Kerbing
  • Signing, Lighting & Guarding
  • Slinger Signaller Operations
  • Site Dumper Operations
  • Confined Space Training, Asbestos Awareness
  • Emergency Situations / Rescue Training
  • Working at Heights
  • Water Hygiene

 

Phase 2 Weeks 13-21Work-based Learning

Phase 3 Weeks 22-31Simulated site training at Mount Lucas

  • Creating and maintaining an efficient, effective, safe and secure environment in utilities network construction
  • Install equipment for safe working on sites and on the highway
  • Locate and avoid supply apparatus
  • Excavate & maintain holes & trenches
  • Reinstate excavations & pavement surfaces after utility network construction
  • Operate powered tools and equipment for routine and predictable requirements

Phase 2 Weeks 32-40Work-based Learning

Phase 3 Weeks 41-50Simulated site training at Mount Lucas

  • Joint materials
  • By electrofusion processes
  • By butt fusion processes
  • By mechanical means
  • Install water mains
  • Conduct pressure and soundness testing
  • Restore water network components to operational condition by repair

MEWP Training

This course is the new Irish Certification delivered at The National Construction Training Centre for MEWP Operators in all working at height applications. This training includes both the Scissor Lift MEWP and the Articulated Boom MEWP.

On successful completion of this course, Operators will gain an Irish qualification and Operators card. The card is valid for 5 years and all operators will be registered on IMOR (Irish MEWP Operators Register).

Course Duration:

Novice: 3-day course

Experienced Non-Certified: 1 day course

Forklift Training

This course is the new Irish Certification delivered at The National Construction Training Centre for Forklift Operators in all logistical applications. This training includes Reach, Counter Balance and Electric powered pallet trucks.

On successful completion of this course, Operators will gain an Irish qualification and Operators card. The card is valid for 5 years and all operators will be registered on IFOR (Irish Forklift Operators Register).

Course Duration:

Novice: 5-day course

Experienced Non-Certified: 3 day course
